Honorary Life Members

Society Honorary Life Members – A History of Achievement

Over the years the Society has been pleased to recognise a number of people for exceptional services to the 009 Society or 009 modelling. In 2009 the Society committee agreed that the number of surviving life members should be limited to 25. As of April 2024 there are 17 Honorary Life Members, though, sadly, others who have been awarded life membership are no longer with us.

Here is a list of the current Honorary Life Members, plus their citations which give the reason for the award.

In addition we should mention David Mander. He passed away before the first Honorary Life Certificates were printed in 2001, so never had the chance to receive one.

So that is the whole list and what a fantastic contribution has been made by all the Honorary Life Members to the Society and to 009 modelling for which we should be very grateful.

There is no very formal nomination procedure. A Society member who would like to nominate a candidate contacts a committee member (generally the Chairman) with their reasons for doing so.  The Chairman then passes the nomination around the Committee (usually at the January meeting in preparation for presentation at the AGM).  All nominations are considered and if there is agreement, the certificate is printed, framed and the presentation is made.
